GV is an abbreviation of Genetische Virologie, the old name of the Ghent University department where the laboratories of Jeff Schell & Marc Van Montagu were located.

The number 3101 refers to the strain number when originally deposited in the collection and was made by Marcel Holster who cured the pTiC58 Ti plasmid from the Rifampicin resistant strain C58. C1 stands for cured 1, MP is an abbreviation for Max-Planck.
